FAQ from What The Diff

What is What-the-Diff? +

What-the-Diff is an AI-powered application that reviews pull request diffs and generates descriptive comments about the changes in plain English.

What are tokens? +

Tokens are used to process the git diff of your pull requests to generate descriptions. Larger diffs require more tokens for processing. An average pull request consumes approximately 2,300 tokens.

How does What the Diff work? +

The application uses the GitHub or GitLab API to retrieve your pull request diff and employs an AI model to generate a summary of the changes. We do not store your code.

Does it work with all languages? +

Yes, we support nearly all programming languages, and the AI can explain the diff in plain English or any of the other supported languages.

What happens if I run out of tokens? +

If you exhaust your tokens, you can upgrade to a larger plan or wait until your next billing cycle. We do not automatically upgrade your plan.

Do you store my code? +

We do not store your code, nor do our third-party services. We only use the GitHub or GitLab API to read the diff of your pull requests.

Do unused tokens roll over? +

Unused tokens do not roll over to the next month. We recommend selecting the smallest plan and upgrading as needed; you can downgrade to a smaller plan at any time.

Do you train your AI model with my code? +

No, we do not train our AI models with your code. We are unable to do so because we do not store your code or pull request diffs.

Why do you need full access to my code? +

GitHub and GitLab do not provide specific permissions to only read a pull request diff. Consequently, we require full access to your code to read the diff.
