Hey everyone,
I’m working on a production chatbot using Amazon Bedrock Agent in ap-south-1 (Mumbai), currently using Claude 3 Haiku.
I’m trying to understand model lifecycle + deprecation timelines, but I’m seeing conflicting signals:
- Anthropic docs say Claude 3 Haiku is deprecated Feb 2026 and retires April 20, 2026 (Claude API)
- but in my Bedrock console, Haiku is still available while Claude 3 Sonnet is already legacy
- AWS lifecycle docs show models can stay in Legacy for months before EOL and even have extended access.
- Also, only Claude 3 Haiku and Claude 3 Sonnet are Bedrock-optimized models in my region.
This creates confusion about whether Anthropic’s retirement dates actually apply to Bedrock or not.
My Questions:
1. Will Claude 3 Haiku continue working in Bedrock (ap-south-1) even after April 2026? Till when?
2. Is moving from Haiku → Sonnet even logical, given Sonnet is already marked “legacy”? Will it buy me some time?
